Not much to tell in terms of news. The Burqa doc is moving along nicely and rough cuts that have been sent out are receiving a lot of encouraging comments. As the doc is based in the middle- east I thought it prudent to try and give it a middle-eastern/modern musical bent. I borrowed a friends oud and taught myself the basics and just mixed 4 songs that sound pretty good. So that will add a certain something to the film and I’m quite pleased with the results.

Voice Over O Rama
January 20th, 2012
Crazy two weeks of voice overs for the Burqa doc but I think we have it all recorded and placed. Great time with the Director who is also the voice over artist and interesting to see which takes she thought worked best. Yesterday we did war scenes and I’m waiting for CSIS to show up at my door as there was a lot of Jihad inspired yelling and screaming filling up the neighborhood. And now I can finally get back to sound design and music. That’s about it career wise this week.
In other news, for those readers outside of Canada, we have been getting some crazy winter weather all across the country. -40 C in the west and even Vancouver has been below zero for a week.
See you next week.
True to my word

2nd week of January and here I am blogging as promised. Just spent the weekend transferring files to my new computer and now I am ready to go. First up is the ” Burqa ” doc which needs to be sound designed asap. I need to alter the video files as they are gigantic and too cumbersome to tell with. Have I ever received the proper file format from a visual editor? No never! lol Oh well maybe someday.
I watched an interesting film last night called ” Carnival of lost souls “. Not a great film by any means but the score was interesting. Just a pipe organ but some really clever composing. Check it out – it’s quite old so perhaps a library would have a copy.
Until next time.
2012
January 2nd, 2012
Hi and welcome to 2012. The first day of the new year and full of such promise. I have no idea how things are going to unfold but I feel that this will be a year to remember and in fact a year to judge all others by. I don’t make resolutions. If you want to change your life then just do it! Why wait until an arbitrary day called new years. Having said that though, I will endeavor to post this blog more regularly and my goal is to write once a week at least. And of course update the media content of the site more regularly. So check out the music samples.
Take a deep breath and here we go…
October – you is so crazy!!!!
November 14th, 2011
Yes I know it’s the middle of November but that”s just how crazy October was! I’m just able to update this site now.
I was working on ” Vancouver Plays ” which was a series of 4 plays back to back and I was the composer, sound designer and audio consultant. The series took place at CBC studio 700 and the design team basically took the cement box which is studio 700 and built our studio inside. Quite a feat especially since we only had a few days in the studio before the first performance. I was in charge of sourcing all the audio gear we would need and stay on budget. The series was great and one of the best teams I have ever worked with. And I mean everyone including designers, actors, director stage and Pi management and volunteers. A smooth creative machine!!! As for renting and working in studio 700 at the CBC – well I really have nothing good to say about that experience and my professionalism prevents me from going into detail but I would love to rant over a beer!!!!!
Anyway, now I am just wrapping up the editing and producing of the series podcast that will be uploaded to the Pi website for your listening pleasure. Richard Wolfe and I are producing and they sound pretty good – you’ll get a feel for the live performance.
In other news, I have updated this website and among the new goods are the video installations I did for the Rainforest Circus this past summer.
Cheers,
